Implementing Webtrends Analytics for SharePoint

Amongst other collections of reports, Webtrends has separate "Spaces" for both SharePoint Intranet and SharePoint Websites:

Having chosen the one you want, you have a choice of implementation:

1. Using the Webtrends Site Collection Feature

This Feature adds one-click activation of Webtrends Analytics to a SharePoint collection. It enables SharePoint administrators to implement Webtrends on entire farms, without editing individual pages manually.

The Webtrends Installer for SharePoint is downloaded from a link and, once installed, provides Activate and Deactivate buttons for Webtrends SharePoint Analytics in the Site Collection Features. Clicking Activate checks out the default master page for the site collection and inserts both the Webtrends JavaScript include statement before the closing head tag and the Webtrends inline script before the closing body tag.

Clicking Deactivate removes them.

2.  Tagging SharePoint Manually

In some cases, you have to instrument your SharePoint site by editing each site to include the Webtrends tag.

Use the manual tagging method if:

  •     You want to customize the Webtrends JavaScript
  •     You want to use third-party tools to insert the Webtrends HT ML into the master pages of large server farms
  •     You need to manually manage master pages with Webtrends tags
  •     You have SharePoint 2007

Use the SharePoint Designer or a text editor to modify your master page(s) (for example, v4.master) to include the Webtrends inline script code. Place the Webtrends JavaScript call between the head tags:
